Yesterday at work..a fella came in with the most amazing, valuable guitar I've ever seen.|
It was a fender stratocaster made in July, 1954. Leo fender probably personally worked on it. This guitar was like...a little prototype/brainchild of the extremely popular mass-produced fender strats that we all know and love today. Fender starting mass producing strats in October of '54. This was made in JULY. The little old man who brought it in just wanted to get it fixed up and see how much it's worth and our tech guys were totally bewildered. They had NEVER seen anything this old from fender.
OK, so how much is this vintage, historic guitar worth? They told him to talk to some people in Nashville who do really professional guitar appraising and from internet pictures ALONE they offered him $75,000 no questions asked. Which means he could get about two or three times that for real. About $200,000. In Japan (this is what Jim was saying (the guitar fixer-uper)) since they don't have things like that, he said it could go for $500,000. But seriously, $200,000?? Without breaking a sweat?! Holy fuck, that is better than the lottery. This dude bought this guitar for $150 in '61 from a used guitar store.
So that definitely made our day a little brighter. It was so cool. I held a piece of rock n roll history worth $250,000. I've never seen or held anything so valuable like that. That is the luckiest little old man in the whole fucking world. He said he was going to insure it and put it in his safe. Pretty amazing huh. The guitar itself didn't even look that awesome. I mean, obviously it was old and beat up with an orange sun-burst color. But from looking at it, you wouldn't think 'this guitar is worth a quarter of a million.'
It was a good day. There were more good awesome things that happened. Tony has been talking to me a lot too. I gave him some of my home made chapstick and he liked it. :)
I do have one too many cats in my apartment right now. I told Corey I'd try putting Big Bill and Pookie togehter and there has been a lot of fighting. So I'll probably give him back tonight. My place is just too small for two cats and I don't want them fighting over space or me.
Anyway. I can hear someone playing violin and it sounds beautiful. I'm jealous. I want to play like that. Gotta keep practicing. I am getting better...
